Crane & Hoist Basic User (CHBU)

Duration: 16 hours Validity: Unlimited  

The Crane & Hoist Basic User (CHBU) module enables participants to safely and correctly operate cranes and hoists used in wind turbine environments. The training follows the GWO Crane & Hoist Standard V2 (2025) and combines theoretical lessons with practical exercises to ensure safe lifting operations and understanding of relevant safety measures.

Participants will learn how to:
– Identify the main types of cranes and hoists used in wind turbines and their safety features;
– Understand lifting principles, load charts, and mechanical limitations;
– Inspect lifting equipment and accessories before use;
– Apply correct lifting techniques, including load balancing and tag line control;
– Operate cranes and hoists safely under normal and emergency conditions;
– Communicate effectively using standard hand signals and radio communication during lifting operations;
– Recognise potential hazards such as overload, swing, or pinch points;
– Conduct shutdown and storage of lifting equipment according to procedures.

Objective:
Upon completion, participants will be able to safely operate and assist in crane and hoist operations in wind turbines, following safety standards, manufacturer instructions, and site-specific procedures.
